Principal Engineer, CTO Office

About the CTO Office

The CTO Office is a small, high-impact team responsible for driving the company’s technical innovation, research agenda, and long-term technology strategy. The office operates at the intersection of research, architecture, product, marketing and customers, focusing on initiatives that shape the company’s direction rather than incremental execution.

The team is intentionally small and built around exceptional talent density. Its mandate includes:

  • Driving 0→1 innovation and strategic technical initiatives
  • Conducting deep research in AI, security, and agentic systems
  • Publishing whitepapers and submitting work to leading conferences
  • Partnering closely with customers and internal R&D to execute high-impact efforts

This role is the first hire in the CTO Office and will play a key part in shaping the team’s culture, standards, and growth.

The Role

As a Founding Member of the CTO Office, you will work closely with the Head of the CTO Office and operate with a high degree of autonomy and trust. You will be expected to own complex, ambiguous problems end-to-end: from early research and customer discovery to system design, implementation, and iteration.

This is a hands-on role for someone who combines deep technical ability, research orientation, and strong execution skills, and who enjoys operating across disciplines and domains.

What You Will Do

  • Own and execute end-to-end strategic technical initiatives, from problem framing to delivery and customer feedback
  • Conduct deep technical and applied research in areas such as:
    • AI systems and emerging AI trends
    • Agentic architectures and evaluation methodologies
    • Security, identity, and vulnerability research
  • Design and implement foundational systems and technical prototypes as part of exploratory and strategic initiatives, for example:
    • Research and implementation of generic on-prem deployment methods
    • Development of agentic benchmarking and evaluation frameworks
    • Architectural exploration and prototyping in close collaboration with R&D teams
  • Work closely with customers to understand real-world needs and translate them into technical solutions
  • Produce high-quality research outputs (whitepapers, technical reports, conference submissions)
  • Represent the company in external forums, including conferences, research communities, and customer-facing technical discussions
  • Contribute to shaping the culture, best practices, and operating model of the CTO Office

Who You Are

You are a curious, fearless, and deeply technical problem-solver who thrives on tackling the unknown. You bring a rare combination of research-level rigor, hands-on engineering skill, and strategic thinking, and you love translating complex problems into elegant solutions.

You:

  • Own end-to-end initiatives and navigate ambiguity with confidence.
  • Build from scratch, iterating boldly and refining ideas into working systems.
  • Think across domains, connecting research, product, and customer insights.
  • Lead with humility, approachable and eager to uplift teammates through mentorship and shared best practices.
  • Operate autonomously and strategically, guided by a strong internal compass. You balance delivering today with building for the long-term.
  • Learn voraciously and act with impact, whether publishing research, prototyping new systems, or sharing knowledge.
  • Communicate clearly and influence broadly, whether with engineers, researchers, leadership, or customers.
  • Shape culture and high-performing teams, leaving a lasting impact beyond just code or papers.

You’re motivated by the chance to leave a mark on a company and its technology, and you thrive in a team where autonomy, trust, and high standards are the norm.

Required Experience & Skills

  • 6+ years of hands-on experience building, designing, and scaling complex software systems or driving research-driven technical initiatives
  • Deep expertise in software engineering and system architecture, with a track record of delivering end-to-end solutions
  • Proven ability to conduct research-oriented work, whether in academia, industry, or independent projects
  • Experience in one or more of:
    • AI / ML systems
    • Security, identity, or vulnerability research
  • Comfortable engaging with customers, partners, or external stakeholders, translating real-world problems into technical solutions
  • Demonstrated ability to own and drive complex initiatives independently, from conception to execution

Advantage

  • Publications, talks, or open-source contributions
  • Experience submitting to or presenting at technical conferences
  • Leadership or mentoring experience in small, high-impact teams
